Gary Oldman Says a New James Bond Has Been Picked, and He's Rooting for 'Slow Horses' Costar Jack Lowden

Everyone from Paul Mescal to Jacob Elordi has been floated as the next 007. According to Gary Oldman, though, the studio already knows exactly who it wants.

Gary Oldman is crossing his fingers that the next James Bond will be his “Slow Horses” costar Jack Lowden.

During a recent interview on the Canadian talk show "The Morning Show," Oldman addressed rumors that Lowden could be the next 007. "Jack, it's been rumored that he's on the shortlist," Oldman said.

Oldman suggested that a decision on who the next Bond will be has already been made. "We're going to find out pretty soon, aren't we? Because they have picked him,” he said. “They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack."

Lowden joins a growing list of rumored contenders to take over the role that once belonged to the likes of Pierce Brosnan and, more recently, Daniel Craig. This includes Paul Mescal, Jacob Elordi, and Jack O'Connell.

Steven Knight, who’s going to write for the upcoming Bond film, declined to comment on the matter. "I cannot speak about this subject. Much as I would dearly love to," he said on BBC Radio 4's "Today" show.

Speculation surrounding the next Bond intensified after Amazon MGM Studios took over creative control of the Bond franchise. In February 2025, Amazon, along with longtime Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, announced a new joint venture giving Amazon MGM Studios creative control of the franchise going forward, with Wilson and Broccoli remaining co-owners. The deal officially closed the following month.
